RECYCLED CONTENT – LEED CREDITS 4.1 AND 4.2

J.R. Hoe & sons is a manufacturer of iron construction castings. The HOE foundry processes basic raw materials (scrap iron, scrap steel, pig iron) into quality castings which are utilized in the construction industry. The recycled content of HOE construction castings based on 2009 production data is detailed in the chart below.

In LEED Project Checklist – Materials and Resources:

  • 1 LEED point awarded if total recycled content of building materials exceeds 10%.
  • 2 LEED points if this total exceeds 20% of project.

REGIONAL MATERIALS – LEED Credits 5.1 and 5.2

The J.R. Hoe & Sons casting production facility is located in Middlesboro, Kentucky. All (100%) of post-consumer scrap steel utilized in the manufacture of HOE construction castings is sourced (harvested/extracted) within 80 miles of the production location.

In LEED Project Checklist – Materials and Resources:

  • 1 LEED point awarded if 10% or more of building materials are extracted/ manufactured within 500 miles of project site.
  • 2 LEED points awarded if 20% are regionally produced within 500 miles of project site.
